Black and White Glamour!

Check out the window display at She's this week so you won't miss the glamorous black and white shots of Sheila Stevens from her modeling career! The shots are creatively placed amongst current fashion offerings and make for a stunning display.

It's a fun "walk down memory lane" and a great tribute to fashion history.

Attendance has TRIPLED at Movies Under the Stars!

Bringing Movies to Downtown

The Hollister Downtown Association’s newest event for downtown, “Movies Under the Stars,” has exceeded attendance expectations! Our first movie, Grease, was shown on May 28 and brought out 450 people to downtown for a family experience they will surely not forget! While weather caused us to reschedule Casablanca on week number two, Shrek rebounded on June 11 with 843 people!
Our largest attendance to date was for the Bee Movie, shown on June 18. We had a record 1200 people downtown on the lawn watching a movie with friends and family!
“Movies Under the Stars” is an event for everyone in our community. Movies are shown on Thursday nights, on the corner of Fourth Street and San Benito Street, on the grassy lot. Admission is free. We have an on site concession stand offering popcorn, sodas, nachos, candy and pizza for your convenience, although you may bring in your own non-alcoholic beverages and food. We ask that you do not bring animals of any kind to the event per city regulations. For a complete list of upcoming movies, please visit our web site at www.downtownhollister.org.
Funds raised from the event will be used for the Hollister Downtown Association to put this event on next year. If you are interested in sponsoring, offering a raffle prize or have questions regarding our events, call our Events Coordinator, Jeana Arnold at 636-8406.
Hollister Downtown Association is a non-profit association of downtown merchants, bankers, property owners and community volunteers. As a Main Street City, we work to revitalize downtown through historic preservation and community participation. We pursue an aggressive agenda of new construction, store front renovation, retail promotion and business recruitment. Please visit our web site www.downtownhollister.org for more information about our organization.

Hollister Makes the Cut

A group of motorcyclists rode into town today, but they didn't park in front of the usual local bar. Instead, two dozen people divided and then conquered the local restaurants for lunch, including the Knife and Fork Cafe, Elegant Touch, and Mars Hill Coffeehouse. They were even seen peaking into the windows of She's Apparel and Shoes.

They are on a 1500 mile trek around the state, and decided Hollister was a bike friendly town. Unfortunately for us, the old Pendergrass Hotel at Fifth and San Benito Streets is no longer in service, or they would probably spend the night. One can only dream...

So instead, the group will spend their money on food (and maybe some ruby slippers at She's) and then travel to downtown Paso Robles for the night--a hot spot for wine tasting. Hmmm...San Benito County has wineries...maybe we should have tasting rooms downtown.

Shrek: The Greatest Fairy Tale Never Told!

Once upon a time, there was a lovely princess. But she had an enchantment upon her of a fearful sort which could only be broken by love's first kiss. She was locked away in a castle guarded by a terrible fire-breathing dragon. Many brave knights had attempted to free her from this dreadful prison, but none prevailed. She waited in the dragon's keep, in the highest room of the tallest tower, for her true love, and true love's first kiss...

Come to beautiful downtown Hollister on Thursday night (6/11) to enjoy a fun filled night of family entertainment! Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow provide the voices of the characters in this 2001 tale of an Ogre and a Princess.

Did I mention that it's free? :) Movie starts at 9:01pm

See the complete list of movies here http://www.downtownhollister.org/moviesunderthestars.php

If you would like to volunteer to help on movie nights, please send an email to events@downtownhollister.org and I can send you a list of what we need help with and when we need it. Thanks!

Next week: Bee Movie

Movies Under the Stars!

Unfortunately, we had to cancel this weeks scheduled showing of Casablanca due to the threat of rain, thunderstorms and possible lightning. While I don't think anything became of the forecast, keeping everyone safe is our priority. We will reschedule Casablanca for later in the season.

Up next week is Shrek! We expect large crowds of happy families for this one. Come with your blankets, chairs (preferably the low ones) and be prepared to be entertained.

Please visit our snack bar where we will be selling movie theater popcorn, nachos, candy, sodas, water and pizza. Proceeds from the pizza sales directly benefit the Hollister Downtown Association, enabling us to continue to bring these free movies to you.

Fans Come Out for John & Olivia

Last night, 450 residents of Hollister attended the first "Movies Under the Stars" in downtown. Grease starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John was the first movie of the series and next week the HDA will be showing the classic, Casablanca. School is still in session, so the first few movies are geared for an older crowd, but that did not stop families from attending last night.

Popcorn, candy, pizza, and drinks were available for purchase, and while there were not large groups singing along with the stars, everyone had a great time.

Be sure to dress warmly, bring a comfortable chair (preferably a beach chair) and join us next week.

Under Construction

The Knife & Fork Cafe is currently under construction; the alley is being transformed into a formal seating area with large potted trees, wrought iron railing, and a new side door for easier access. Can't wait to enjoy the ambiance.
